The Accusation in the Foyer

The Maid Dropped the Baby on Purpose

Marcus: Stand up, Elena! Don't you dare touch my daughter again!

Elena: Mr. Vance, listen to me for one second. I didn't drop her! Mrs. Vance pushed the stroller toward the edge!

Victoria: How dare you! You incompetent liar!

Victoria rushed down the sweeping curved staircase, her designer heels clicking sharply against the tile. She put her hands on her hips, her eyes flashing with pure malice.

Victoria: Marcus, I came out of the master bedroom and saw her holding Sophia right over the ledge. When I screamed her name, she let go!

Elena: That is a complete lie! You left the baby near the railing with the brake unlocked!

Marcus: Silence! Both of you!

Marcus cradled the tiny baby girl against his shoulder. His jaw was clenched so tight the muscles twitched under his skin. He looked at Elena, his eyes cold and full of betrayal.

Marcus: We hired you three months ago, Elena. We trusted you with our home, our life, our child.

Elena: And I have done nothing but protect this baby, sir! Check the security cameras! Please, just look at the feed!

Victoria: The foyer camera has been out of service since yesterday, Marcus. You know that. The technician is coming tomorrow.

Elena: What? No, it was working this morning! The green light was on when I dusted the frame!

Victoria: See? She's making up excuses now. She knew the camera was off, Marcus. She thought she could get away with it!

Marcus: Is that true, Elena? Did you think you could hurt my daughter in my own house?

Elena: No! I swear on my own life! Why would I ever hurt baby Sophia?

Victoria: Because she knows her contract is ending next week! She wanted to sue us for negligence or claim an injury!

Elena: I don't care about money! I care about this baby!

Marcus: Pack your things. If you aren't off my property in five minutes, I will have the police arrest you for attempted murder and child endangerment.

Elena: Mr. Vance, please... don't do this. Look at your wife's hands. Ask her why her glove is torn.

Victoria: What are you babbling about? My gloves are fine!

Elena: The lace on your right glove! It got caught on the stroller handle when you pushed it!

Marcus turned his head slightly toward his wife. Victoria quickly tucked her right hand behind her back, her face flushing bright red.

Victoria: She's insane, Marcus! She's trying to turn you against your own wife!

Marcus: Victoria, show me your hand.

Victoria: Why are you listening to the maid?! Our baby almost died on that floor!

Marcus: Show me your hand, Victoria.

Victoria: Fine! Look!

Victoria held out her left hand instead, keeping the right one tightly pressed against her silk skirt.

Elena: The other hand! Show him the right hand!

Victoria: Shut up! Marcus, throw her out right now or I'm calling my father's lawyers!

Marcus: Elena, leave now. We will handle this through our legal team. If you step foot on this estate again, you will be arrested.

Elena: You're making a terrible mistake, Mr. Vance. You're protecting the person who actually wants that baby gone.

Elena stood up slowly, her knees bruised and bleeding through her uniform stockings. She looked at the baby one last time before pulling her small coat around her shoulders.

Victoria: And leave the house keys on the counter!

Elena: Keep the keys. But you can't lock away the truth forever.

Elena turned and walked out the heavy doors, leaving behind the oil empire mansion, but carrying a secret that would soon shatter the Vance family name into a thousand pieces.
