Elena handed the small black USB drive to Marcus. He walked over to his study desk, plugged it into his laptop, and clicked on the file. Victoria tried to rush toward the desk, but Marcus held up his hand, his expression dead serious.
Marcus: Stay right there, Victoria. Don't move a single step.
The room went dead silent except for the low hum of the laptop speaker. The screen glowed, illuminating Marcus's face as the video played. His eyes widened in absolute horror as he saw his wife reach out, unlock the stroller brakes, and throw the heavy carriage toward the balcony edge.
Marcus: Dear God... no...
He watched the video frame by frame: Victoria's glove ripping on the metal handle, the baby tipping over the edge, and Elena diving across the hard marble floor to catch his baby girl just inches before impact.
Marcus: You... you pushed her. You tried to murder my daughter!
Victoria: Marcus, please! Listen to me! It was an accident! The brakes were faulty!
Marcus: You unlocked them! I just saw your hands do it on high-definition video!
Victoria: She's not even my real baby! Why do you care so much about her?! You were going to give everything to her while I got nothing!
Marcus: Get your hands off me!
Victoria tried to grab Marcus's arm, but he shoved her away in absolute disgust. He turned to the two security guards standing at the door.
Marcus: Hold her right here. Call the Dallas Police Department immediately. Tell them to send a detective for attempted capital murder of an infant.
Victoria: Marcus, no! You can't do this to me! My father will destroy your company! Arthur! Where is Arthur?!
Elena: Arthur knew everything, Mr. Vance. He came to my cottage tonight with a fifty thousand dollar check to buy my silence.
Marcus: Arthur Pendelton?
Elena: Yes. He told me about the prenuptial trust clause and the inheritance rules.
Marcus pulled his phone from his pocket, his hand shaking with rage. He dialed a number and put it on speaker.
Marcus: Arthur, you are fired as head of Vance Legal effective this second. And if you don't turn yourself in as an accessory to attempted murder within the hour, my criminal attorneys will make sure you spend the rest of your life in federal prison.
Arthur (Over Phone): Marcus, wait! Let's talk about this—
Marcus ended the call and tossed the phone onto the desk. Police sirens began blaring in the distance, their red and blue lights flashing through the high glass windows of the foyer.
Victoria: Marcus! Please! I love you! Don't let them take me!
Marcus: Take her out of my sight before I do something I'll regret for the rest of my life.
The security officers restrained Victoria, escorting her down the front steps into the waiting police cruisers. Her screams echoed across the wet driveway until the heavy oak doors shut tight, restoring silence to the home.
