Two uniform police officers entered the grand dining hall, their heavy boots echoing on the white marble floor.
Police Officer: Mr. Arthur Vance?
Arthur: Yes, Officer. Thank you for arriving so quickly.
Police Officer: We received a report of corporate espionage and unauthorized wiretapping on private property.
Arthur: That is correct. We have recovered two illegal listening devices from my dining hall, along with security footage evidence of perimeter sabotage.
Victoria: Officer, this is a misunderstanding between a couple! It's a domestic dispute!
Police Officer: Ma'am, illegal wiretapping and conspiracy to commit corporate theft are federal offenses, not domestic disputes.
Arthur: Officers, Miss Victoria has just admitted on record to colluding with Richard Sterling to access encrypted corporate files.
Victoria: I didn't mean it! I was panicked!
Police Officer: Ma'am, please step away from the table and keep your hands where we can see them.
Victoria: Arthur, tell them to stop! You can't let them arrest me in my dinner dress!
Arthur: The dress was bought with my money, Victoria. Just like the engagement ring on your finger.
Arthur stepped closer, holding out his hand calmly.
Arthur: Take off the ring.
Victoria: No... please, Arthur...
Arthur: Take off the ring, Victoria. You don't belong in this house, and you certainly don't belong in my life.
Tears smeared her makeup as she pulled the five-carat diamond ring from her finger and slapped it down onto the marble table.
Police Officer: Turn around, ma'am. Hands behind your back.
The click of the handcuffs echoed through the silent dining room as the guests looked on in total shock.
