David: "Is she hurt? Maria, tell me if my daughter is hurt!"
Maria: "She's shaken up, sir, but I think I caught her before she hit the ground. She's breathing fine."
David rushed back down the stairs, falling to his knees beside Maria. His hands trembled as he took Lily into his arms, kissing the top of her head repeatedly while tears welled up in his dark eyes.
David: "Thank God. Thank God for you, Maria. You saved her life."
Evelyn: "David, please listen to me! She's lying! She pushed the baby or frightened her!"
David: "Shut your mouth, Evelyn! I saw you with my own eyes!"
Evelyn: "You didn't see what happened! I was trying to hold onto her dress!"
David stood up slowly, turning to glare at his wife with cold, venomous hatred. The high-key sunlight reflected off his polished shoe as he stepped toward the bottom of the stairs, pointing a finger directly at her.
David: "I saw you push her. I saw your hands on her back. Do you think I'm blind?"
Evelyn: "You're crazy! Why would I ever hurt Lily? She's your daughter!"
Maria: "Sir, please... she's been saying strange things all week. She asked me about the security cameras yesterday."
David snapped his head around to look at Maria, his eyebrows pulling together in confusion and rising suspicion.
David: "What do you mean? What did she ask you about the cameras?"
Maria: "She asked if the hallway camera on the second floor was fully connected to the main server or if it was just for live monitoring."
Evelyn: "She's making that up! She's just a bitter maid trying to save her job because I threatened to fire her!"
David: "You threatened to fire her? For what?"
Evelyn: "She was stealing! I caught her looking through your private study documents this morning!"
Maria shook her head frantically, wiping away her own tears as she held herself upright on the marble floor.
Maria: "That's a lie! I was dusting the bookshelf! You told me to clean that room specifically!"
David: "Enough! The police are on their way. We will let them look at the footage."
Evelyn's face suddenly went pale, the freckles on her nose standing out starkly against her white skin. She pulled her silk robe tighter around herself, her fingers twitching near her pockets.
Evelyn: "The cameras... they aren't recording, David. Remember? You said the hard drive was full last week."
David: "I replaced the hard drive three days ago, Evelyn. Every single corner of this house is being recorded in crystal-clear high definition."
Evelyn froze in total panic. Her eyes darted toward the front door, then toward the back exit near the kitchen. David noticed her nervous glance immediately and took two large strides to block the main staircase.
David: "Don't even think about running."
Evelyn: "You can't do this to me! I am your wife! We have a prenup, but you can't just accuse me of attempted murder!"
David: "A prenup? Is that what this is about? The trust fund?"
Maria: "Sir, when I was cleaning the study, I saw a folder on the desk. It had legal stamps on it."
David: "What folder, Maria?"
Maria: "It was a life insurance policy for Lily. Taken out just last month."
David turned his gaze back up to the balcony, his jaw clenched so tightly that a vein throbbed on his temple. The sirens outside grew louder, their red and blue lights flashing through the tall glass windows of the Dallas mansion.
