Evelyn: "You really thought I loved you, didn't you, David? You rich men are so incredibly gullible."
David: "You monster... I gave you everything. A home, a luxury life, my family name!"
Evelyn: "You gave me scraps! Your late wife left everything in a trust fund for that useless little girl!"
Officer Miller: "That's enough out of you. You have the right to remain silent."
Evelyn: "Shut up! Let me finish! He deserves to know how easily he was played!"
David held Lily tighter against his chest, shielding the child's eyes from the angry woman being restrained by the police officer.
David: "How long have you and Richard been planning this?"
Evelyn: "Since before I even met you at that charity gala in Houston. Richard knew your estate was worth forty million dollars."
Maria: "Sir, the security system... I remember something else."
David: "What is it, Maria? Speak freely."
Maria: "This morning, before you came home from your business trip, a man came to the side door. He was carrying a briefcase."
David: "Was it Richard Sterling?"
Maria: "Yes, sir. He gave her a small glass bottle and told her to put it in your evening wine."
David's blood ran cold. The plot was far bigger than just a balcony accident. They were planning to wipe out his entire lineage in a single weekend.
David: "Where is that bottle now, Maria?"
Maria: "She hid it in the pantry behind the silver trays. I saw her hide it right before she called Lily up to the balcony."
Officer Davis: "I'm going to search the kitchen pantry immediately."
Evelyn: "No! You can't search my kitchen without a warrant!"
Officer Miller: "This is a crime scene now, ma'am. Exigent circumstances give us full authority to secure all evidence."
Officer Davis walked into the pantry and emerged two minutes later holding a small amber glass bottle labeled with a deadly chemical compound.
Officer Davis: "Got it. High-concentration liquid toxin. This goes straight to the forensics lab."
David: "You were going to poison me... and make it look like I fell ill after losing my daughter."
Evelyn: "It was perfect! It was a perfect plan! If this stupid maid hadn't jumped like an animal, I would be free!"
Maria: "I might be a maid, but I have a heart. Something you will never have."
Officer Miller: "Let's go, lady. You're going away for a very long time."
The officers escorted the screaming, struggling stepmother out of the front entrance, slamming the heavy double doors behind them. The huge Dallas mansion fell into a heavy, dramatic silence, broken only by the soft breathing of the innocent toddler.
