Daniel: You aren't going anywhere! Sit down on that floor right now!
Evelyn: Let go of me! You have no right to touch me like this!
Daniel: I have every right! You trapped my wife behind drywall in my own home!
Daniel dragged Evelyn by her arm, forcing her down onto the sofa while holding his smartphone with his free hand, frantically dialing nine-one-one. Lily ran past them, wrapping her small arms around Sarah's waist and sobbing loudly against her tear-stained shirt.
Lily: I knew it was you, Mommy! I heard you calling my name through the baseboards!
Sarah: I never left you, baby... I tried so hard to knock every time he left the house...
Emergency Dispatcher: Nine-one-one, what is the location of your emergency?
Daniel: I need police and an ambulance at 412 Maple Street immediately! My wife has been held captive inside a hidden wall!
Evelyn: Don't listen to him! It's a domestic dispute! We don't need officers!
Daniel: Send officers now! The woman who kidnapped her is right here in my living room!
Emergency Dispatcher: Units are dispatched. Stay on the line, sir. Are there any weapons involved?
Daniel: Just a hammer I used to break her out. Please hurry!
Daniel slammed his phone down on the glass coffee table, his chest heaving as he stared at the woman he had married just six months prior. Evelyn sat on the couch, her face twisted in pure malice, no longer trying to play the delicate, loving stepmother she had pretended to be.
Daniel: How did you do this? The hospital gave me her ashes!
Evelyn: You were so easy to fool, Daniel. So broken and desperate for someone to fix your lonely life.
Sarah: She worked at the private care clinic... where I was recovering from the car crash...
Daniel: The crash three years ago? You survived the impact?
Sarah: I was in a medically induced coma... Evelyn was my primary nurse...
Evelyn: Shut up, Sarah! Just keep your mouth shut!
Daniel: Let her speak! What did you do to my family, Evelyn?
Sarah: She found out about my family's inheritance... the multi-million dollar estate my father left in a trust...
Daniel: The trust fund that was released to me after your declared death?
Sarah: She faked my medical records... forged the death certificate with a dirty doctor, and kept me heavily sedated in a private facility...
Evelyn: You would have spent that money on stupid medical trials anyway!
Daniel: You monster! You stole three years of my daughter's life with her mother!
Sarah: When the facility closed down last month... she had nowhere else to hide me... so she brought me here while you were away on business...
Lily: She told me there were rats in the walls, Daddy!
Daniel: She was going to let you starve in there, wasn't she?
Outside, the faint sound of police sirens began to echo through the quiet suburban neighborhood, growing louder with every passing second.
