FABLE

The Truth In Black And White

The Secret Hidden Behind Her Sealed Wall

Lawyer: Mr. Miller, the evidence we gathered from Evelyn's private safe is beyond damning.

Daniel: Did you find the original trust fund documents?

Lawyer: We found everything. The offshore bank accounts, the forged death certificate, and the monthly payments to Dr. Harrison at the clinic.

Daniel sat in the high-backed leather chair of the downtown law office, holding Sarah's thin, pale hand in his own. Two weeks had passed since the night the wall was broken open, and though Sarah was still physically frail, her spirit was slowly returning to life.

Sarah: What happens to the money she transferred out of my father's estate?

Lawyer: The federal prosecutor has already frozen all assets associated with Evelyn Vance and her co-conspirators.

Daniel: Will Sarah be able to recover her legal identity?

Lawyer: Absolutely. The court is nullifying her death certificate tomorrow morning. Legally, Sarah, you are officially alive.

Sarah: And my marriage to Daniel?

Lawyer: Your original marriage was never legally dissolved because you were never dead. His subsequent marriage to Evelyn is completely void under state law.

Daniel: Good. That means that monster has no claim to our home or our life.

Lawyer: Not only that, but the district attorney is filing charges for aggravated kidnapping, grand larceny, insurance fraud, and attempted murder.

Sarah: She told me every day that Daniel had forgotten about me... that he moved on with a new wife and didn't care.

Daniel: I cried for you every single night, Sarah. I kept your clothes in our closet for two years until she made me throw them out.

Sarah: I knew in my heart you wouldn't just forget... that's what kept me holding on in that dark room.

Lawyer: Dr. Harrison was arrested at his private practice this morning. He is already talking to prosecutors to secure a plea deal.

Daniel: Make sure none of them ever see the light of day again.

Lawyer: With the amount of financial and physical evidence we have, Evelyn Vance will be spending the rest of her life in a federal penitentiary.

Sarah: I don't care about the money anymore... I just want to go home and be a mother to Lily.

Daniel: The house is being completely renovated, Sarah. The contractors tore down that whole hallway yesterday.

Sarah: Good. I want that dark place erased forever.

Daniel squeezed Sarah's hand tightly, looking into her eyes and seeing the woman he thought he had lost forever, standing right on the brink of justice.
