Evelyn: You think the police are going to fix this? You signed the mortgage papers with me, Daniel!
Daniel: I don't care about the house! I care about what you stole from my family!
Evelyn: Half of this estate is legally mine! We are legally married!
Daniel: A marriage built on fraud and kidnapping isn't worth the paper it's printed on!
Red and blue lights flashed through the front living room windows, casting long, eerie shadows across the ruined drywall in the foyer. Two police officers drew their sidearms as they approached the front door, which stood wide open from Daniel's earlier struggle.
Police Officer: Police! Everyone put your hands where we can see them!
Daniel: In here! Officers, please help us!
Evelyn: Officer, thank God you're here! My husband has had a psychotic break and attacked me!
Daniel: Look at the wall behind you, Officer! She sealed my first wife inside a hidden room!
The lead officer stepped into the foyer, his flashlight beam illuminating the shattered plaster, the hammer, and Sarah standing weakly in the hallway, looking emaciated and filthy.
Police Officer: Ma'am, are you injured? Who put you in there?
Sarah: She did... Evelyn Vance... she's kept me prisoner for three years...
Second Officer: Turn around, ma'am. Put your hands behind your back right now.
Evelyn: You can't arrest me! I am the legal owner of this property!
Second Officer: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
The officer ratcheted the steel handcuffs around Evelyn's wrists, pulling her up from the couch as she began to kick and scream uncontrollably.
Evelyn: Daniel, tell them to stop! We can work this out! We can share the trust money!
Daniel: Get her out of my house before I lose my mind!
Sarah: The lawyer... Dr. Vance... they were all part of it...
Police Officer: We have paramedics right outside, ma'am. Let's get you checked over immediately.
Daniel: I'm coming with you, Sarah. Lily, hold my hand.
Sarah: Is it really over, Daniel? Is she finally gone?
Daniel: It's over, my love. Nobody is ever going to hurt you or hide you again.
As the paramedics wrapped a warm white blanket around Sarah's shaking shoulders, Daniel caught a glimpse of Evelyn being pushed into the back of a police cruiser. Her face was contorted in rage, but for the first time in years, the suffocating dark cloud over the house began to lift.
