A Cruel Stepmother Dropped a Baby Over the Railing, But the Maid Caught Her

The grandfather clock in the foyer of the sprawling Dallas mansion ticked with a heavy, ominous beat. Outside, sunlight poured across the immaculate white marble floor, but inside, a nightmare was unfolding on the second-floor balcony. Evelyn stood near the gilded railing, her face twisted in absolute rage. Her high heels clicked sharp and angry against the polished wood as she glared down at Elena, the house maid who was trembling near the grand staircase.

Evelyn: Look what happens when you disobey me!

Elena: No, please! Don't hurt the baby! Have mercy!

Elena dropped to her knees on the cold marble floor. Tears streamed down her face, her hands clasped tightly together in desperate prayer. She stared up at the high balcony where three-year-old Lily hung over the dark iron railing. The little girl’s tiny legs kicked wildly in the air, her frightened cries echoing off the high ceilings of the luxury home. Evelyn held the child by a single arm over the drop, her eyes cold and completely unyielding.

Evelyn: You thought you could tell Mark about the money? You thought you could ruin my place in this family?

Elena: I didn't say anything! Please, just bring her back over the rail! She’s just an innocent child!

Evelyn: You need to learn who controls this house, Elena. And you’re going to learn right now.

Without a second thought, Evelyn opened her fingers. Lily let out a sharp, terrified scream as she plunged toward the marble floor below. Elena didn't hesitate. Ignoring the pain in her knees, she lunged forward across the slick marble floor, throwing her entire body into the open air. Her uniform stretched tight as she reached out with both arms, catching the small child securely against her chest just inches before impact. They rolled together across the floor, Elena shielding the baby’s head with her own body.

Lily sobbed uncontrollably into Elena’s shoulder. Elena cradled the child tight, her body shaking from the massive surge of adrenaline. Above them, Evelyn scoffed, resting her hands on the iron railing as if nothing had happened.

Evelyn: Lucky catch. Now hand her over and get out of my house before I have you arrested for trespassing.

Elena: You are a monster. You could have killed her!

Evelyn: Who do you think Mark will believe? A low-paid maid or his devoted wife?

Before Evelyn could even finish her sentence, the massive double entry doors burst open with a loud thud. Mark stood in the grand entrance, his briefcase dropping to the floor. His eyes went wide as he took in the horrifying sight of his trembling maid holding his crying daughter on the floor, while his wife stood coolly on the balcony above.

Mark: What the hell is going on in here?!

Elena: Mr. Vance! She dropped Lily! She tried to kill her!

Evelyn: Mark, sweetie, don't listen to her! She slipped and dropped the baby herself, and now she’s trying to blame me!

Elena: Look at the security cameras! Check the foyer feed right now!

Mark: Shut up, both of you!

Mark pulled out his phone, his hands shaking with fury as he dialed emergency services, staring up at his wife with complete realization and horror.

Mark: Call 911 right now! Police are on their way!
