The Encounter in the Hallway

Billionaire Tripped Over a Hotel Maid Only to Realize She Was His Missing Wife

Julian: Is this where you've been hiding? Cleaning carpets in a hotel?

Claire: I work for a living, Julian. I earn my money.

Julian: Earn your money? I am the CEO of Vance Enterprises! You are married to a billionaire! You left a penthouse in Manhattan to clean toilets?

Claire: You know exactly why I left that house.

Victoria: Julian, darling, people are starting to look. Let's just call security and have this woman thrown out.

Julian: Don't touch her, Victoria!

Victoria: Excuse me? You're shouting at me over a maid?

Julian: I told you, she is my legal wife!

Claire: Ex-wife, Julian. As far as I'm concerned, we are finished.

Julian: I never signed those divorce papers, Claire. You mailed them to my office, and I burned them in my fireplace. You are still Mrs. Vance.

Claire: You have no right to use that name against me anymore.

Julian: I searched every hospital, every city in the country! I thought you were dead!

Claire: You didn't search hard enough. Or maybe your mother made sure you didn't look in the right places.

Julian: What does my mother have to do with you running away in the middle of the night?

Claire: Ask her yourself. Ask her why my trust fund account was wiped clean overnight.

Victoria: Julian, she's lying to you. Look at her! She's dressed in rags. She's just trying to extort money from your estate!

Julian: Be quiet, Victoria! Claire, look at me. Is this really how you've been living?

Claire: I have a job. I pay my bills. I don't need your blood money, and I certainly don't need your charity.

Julian: Charity? You're my wife! Everything I own belongs to you!

Claire: You lost that right three years ago when you chose your family's board of directors over your own family.

Julian: What family? It was just you and me!

Claire: That's what you think, Julian. That's what your mother wanted you to think.

Julian: What is that supposed to mean?

Claire: I have to get back to work before the head housekeeper writes me up.

Julian: You aren't vacuuming another inch of this carpet. You're coming with me right now.

Claire: Don't lay a finger on me!

Julian: I'm not letting you vanish into thin air again!

Victoria: Julian! What about our dinner reservation with the mayor?

Julian: Cancel it!

Victoria: You can't be serious! You're choosing this domestic worker over me?

Julian: Leave, Victoria. Take a cab home. My driver is taking me and Claire to my office right now.

Claire: I am not going anywhere with you, Julian!

Julian: You either walk out of this building with me voluntarily, or I buy this entire hotel in the next ten minutes and fire every supervisor who told you to work a double shift!

Claire: You haven't changed at all. Still abusing your power.

Julian: I am fighting for my life, Claire. Ten minutes. Just give me ten minutes in my car. If you still want to leave after that, I'll never bother you again.

Claire: Ten minutes. That's all you get.
