Officer Jackson: I found something in her jacket pocket, Sarge.
Officer Jackson pulled out a small black leather journal along with a set of small silver keys from Evelyn's heavy winter coat.
Officer Miller: Open it up.
Evelyn: That's private property! You can't look through my personal belongings without a warrant!
Officer Miller: Exigent circumstances, ma'am. We just pulled a living victim out of your wall.
The officer flipped through the pages of the journal, his expression growing darker with every line he scanned under the bright hallway lights.
Officer Jackson: Sarge, this is a detailed log. Dates, times, bank transfer amounts... and doses of sedatives.
David: Sedatives? You were drugging my wife?!
Evelyn: I was keeping her comfortable! She would have starved if I didn't feed her!
Liam: You lied to us! You told us Mom ran away to Europe with another man!
Maya: You gave me mean looks when I said I heard noises at night!
The paramedics carefully lifted Sarah onto the stretcher, wrapping her in warm thermal blankets as they prepared to move her to the waiting ambulance.
Sarah: David... the safe behind the bookshelf... she made me give her the combination yesterday...
David: The estate safe? The one holding the kids' inheritance funds?
Sarah: She... she was planning to liquidate everything tonight... and leave the country...
David turned his gaze slowly toward Evelyn, who was now sweating profusely under the gaze of three armed police officers.
David: That’s why you wanted me out of town on that fake business trip. You orchestrated the entire call from the firm.
Evelyn: You were always weak, David! You didn't deserve this mansion or the millions Sarah's father left behind!
Officer Miller: Read her her rights, Jackson. Get her into the back of the cruiser before I lose my temper.
Officer Jackson: Evelyn Vance, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law...
Evelyn: Unhand me! I know the district attorney! I have rights!
As Evelyn was dragged out the front doors into the flashing red and blue lights of the police cars, David knelt down beside Sarah's stretcher.
David: I’m so sorry, Sarah. I’m so, so sorry I didn't search harder.
Sarah: You came back... that's all that matters. You brought our boys and girls back to me...
