The front door burst open as two paramedics rushed into the living room carrying equipment.
They knelt down next to Sarah on the hardwood floor and checked her pulse immediately.
Paramedic: Her blood pressure is extremely low. We need to stabilize her right now.
Mark: Here, look at this document! She has a pre-existing heart condition!
The lead paramedic scanned the medical sheet quickly while attaching a monitor to Sarah's arm.
Paramedic: This is critical information, sir. She needs oxygen and immediate hospital transport.
They lifted Sarah carefully onto a rolling gurney and rushed her out to the ambulance.
Mark, Arthur, and Evelyn followed close behind, getting into Arthur's car to follow them.
The drive to the county hospital felt like the longest twenty minutes of Mark's life.
He sat in the back seat, staring at the medical papers folded in his hands.
Mark: Why would she keep something like a serious heart condition hidden from me?
Evelyn: You two have been fighting about money and estate settlements for months, Mark.
Arthur: Maybe she didn't want to add more burden while dealing with her mother's estate lawsuit.
Mark: I was shouting at her over a stupid bakery argument while she was suffering silently.
They arrived at the hospital emergency entrance and rushed into the waiting room area.
A doctor walked out through the double doors forty-five minutes later, holding a clipboard.
Doctor: Family of Sarah Miller?
Mark: I am her husband! Is she going to be okay? Please tell me!
Doctor: We stabilized her heart rhythm. The extreme emotional stress triggered a severe cardiac spike.
Evelyn: Can we see her right now, doctor?
Doctor: She is awake in room two-fourteen, but she must remain completely calm and quiet.
Mark ran down the wide hospital hallway until he reached room two-fourteen's open door.
Sarah was lying in the high hospital bed, an IV line connected to her hand.
She looked up slowly as Mark walked into the quiet room, his eyes full of tears.
Mark: Sarah... I am so sorry. I am so sorry for everything I said today.
Sarah: Mark... you weren't supposed to find out about my heart condition this way.
Mark: Why didn't you tell me? We are married! We are supposed to share everything!
Sarah: Because every time we talked about health or money, we ended up screaming at each other.
