Secrets Hidden in the Shadow

Stepmother Held My Toddler Over the Deep Pool

Evelyn: Mark... sweetheart, listen to me. I was just overwhelmed. You know how stressful step-parenting is!

Mark: Don't call me sweetheart. Stay away from us.

Evelyn: We can talk about this! Delete the video, please. We can go to counseling!

Mark: Counseling? For dangling a child over a pool? You're out of your mind.

Evelyn: If that video gets out, my reputation is ruined! My family's trust fund, my social standing—everything!

Mark: You care about your social standing while my daughter is shaking in my arms?

Lily: Daddy, I want to go inside. I'm cold.

Mark: We're going inside right now, baby.

Mark carried Lily toward the back patio, but Evelyn rushed forward, trying to block the door.

Evelyn: You are not going inside to call your divorce lawyer until we settle this!

Mark: Move out of the way, Evelyn, or I will use force again, and this time the video will prove it was self-defense for my child.

Evelyn: You think you're so smart, don't you? You think you're the only one with secrets in this house?

Mark: What is that supposed to mean?

Evelyn: Why don't you ask your financial manager why fifty thousand dollars was transferred out of Lily's trust fund last week?

Mark narrowed his eyes, his grip tightening around Lily.

Mark: What did you just say about her trust fund?

Evelyn: You heard me. I have access to the joint accounts now, remember? I saw the wire transfer.

Mark: I haven't authorized a single transfer from her mother’s life insurance trust.

Evelyn: Well, someone did. And the money went straight into a offshore account under your name.

Mark: That's impossible. I don't have an offshore account.

Evelyn: Then maybe you should start looking closer at who you trust, Mark. Because if you call the police on me, I’ll tell the IRS you’re embezzling from your own daughter’s inheritance.

Mark: You altered the accounts? You forged my signature?

Evelyn: Prove it. In the eyes of the law, your name is on the bank documents. You destroy me, Mark, and I destroy you and your precious daughter's financial future.

Mark: You orchestrated this whole marriage just to get to her estate, didn't you?

Evelyn: I married a rich widower. I expected a life of luxury, not playing mommy to a crybaby. Now, give me your phone and delete that footage, or we both go down.

Mark: You really don't know who you're dealing with, do you?

Evelyn: I know you're a desperate man trying to protect his reputation.

Mark: No, Evelyn. I'm a father with nothing left to lose.
