The Boy Who Stopped His Grandfather's Dallas Wedding

The crystal chandeliers of the Dallas luxury estate cast a soft gold light over two hundred gasping guests. White marble stretched across the foyer, leading straight up to the floral arch where Arthur Vance stood in a tailored tuxedo. At sixty-eight, the real estate mogul was about to marry Evelyn, a woman thirty years his junior. But right as the minister asked if anyone knew a reason why they should not be joined, heavy double doors burst open.

Leo: GRANDPA, DON'T MARRY HER! SHE KILLED MY DAD!

A collective shock rippled through the grand hall as nine-year-old Leo sprinted across the polished floor. His little suit jacket was disheveled, his eyes bright with tears and desperate panic. Arthur froze, his chest tightening at the mention of his late son, Thomas, who had tragically passed away in a car crash just eight months prior.

Arthur: Leo? What are you doing here, buddy? Who brought you here?

Leo: MOM SAID YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS PROOF!

The boy skidded to a halt on the slick marble, grabbing Arthur's tuxedo sleeve with small, trembling hands. Evelyn stepped forward, her expensive lace wedding gown trailing behind her, a sweet and concerned smile plastered across her face.

Evelyn: WHAT HAPPENED, DARLING? Leo, sweetie, you're ruining the ceremony. Let the adults finish, and we can talk.

Leo: Stay away from him! Grandpa, take it! Please, look at it right now!

Leo pressed a small black USB flash drive into Arthur's palm, his fingers ice-cold. Arthur looked from the drive to the terrified face of his grandson, then up at Evelyn. Her eyes flickered with a sudden, icy flash of panic that lasted only a fraction of a second before her smooth mask returned. But Arthur had spent forty years in business, and he knew what guilty panic looked like. He signaled his head of security, pulled a tablet from his pocket, and plugged the drive in right at the altar. What played across the screen took the breath right out of his lungs.

A cold rage surged through Arthur's veins like gasoline catching fire. He turned toward the woman he was about to make his wife, his face contorting into pure disgust, and swung his arm back with everything he had.

A loud, sharp crack echoed through the massive foyer as Arthur slapped Evelyn across the face, sending her tumbling onto the hard marble floor in front of all Dallas society.
