Harrison: You can't just detain me here! I am leaving!
Harrison lunged toward the heavy front doors, but David stepped forward, blocking the exit with his wide frame.
David: You are not going anywhere until the police arrive, Harrison.
Harrison: This is illegal restraint!
David: Try taking another step and see how fast the charges multiply.
Two uniformed security officers entered through the side entrance, moving quickly across the tile floor.
Officer Miller: Everything alright, Mr. Vance?
David: Hold Mr. Harrison in the guest study until the local police arrive. Take his briefcase and his personal phone.
Harrison: You are making a huge mistake, David! The board of directors will hear about this!
David: I am the chairman of the board, Harrison. You are fired, effective immediately.
The security guards escorted Harrison away down the long corridor as he shouted threats into the empty air.
Silence fell over the foyer, broken only by the soft hum of the air conditioning.
David turned to face Elena, wiping a hand across his tired face.
David: Elena, I don't even know how to apologize for this nightmare.
Elena: You didn't know, Mr. Vance. He was very convincing. He showed me forged bank receipts every week.
David: How much money in total are you owed for these past three months?
Elena: My contract salary is four thousand dollars a month, sir. So twelve thousand dollars in total.
David: Twelve thousand dollars... and you kept showing up every single day to clean my house and cook for my daughter?
Elena: Clara and my daughter are friends, sir. And I knew you were grieving your wife. I didn't want to add more burden to your life if it was just a temporary corporate delay.
Clara: Mommy cried every night when she cooked dinner because she thought we would get evicted.
David: No one is getting evicted. Not on my watch.
David walked over to his desk in the adjoining room, opened a locked drawer, and pulled out a personal checkbook.
David: I am writing you a check right now for fifty thousand dollars.
Elena: What? No, Mr. Vance, that is far too much! My salary is only twelve thousand!
David: Twelve thousand is what I owe you legally. The rest is a severance bonus for the emotional trauma and abuse you suffered from my employee.
