The sound of breaking glass echoed across the silent ballroom, drawing every eye toward the grand staircase. Guests paused mid-conversation, waiter trays hovered in the air, and the live string quartet trailed off into an uncomfortable quiet.
Victoria: Julian, honey, what is wrong with you? Why are you staring at this maid like you've seen a ghost?
Julian: Shut up, Victoria... just shut up for a second!
Victoria: Excuse me?! How dare you speak to your future mother-in-law like that!
Elena: He speaks to you like that because he knows his little game is over, Mrs. Vance.
Julian: Elena... please. Not here. Not tonight. We can talk about this in private.
Elena: Private? You didn't leave me much room for privacy when you stripped my grandfather's estate and ran away with forty million dollars.
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd of high-society guests. Whispers exploded across the room like wildfire.
Victoria: Forty million dollars?! What is this crazy woman talking about? Security! Where is security?!
Elena: Security won't save him tonight, ma'am. Look at his face. Does he look like an innocent groom to you?
Victoria turned her gaze to Julian. The man who had presented himself as an oil heir with unlimited funds was dripping with cold sweat, his hands trembling as he stared at the simple maid standing in front of him.
Victoria: Julian... look at me. Tell me this girl is lying! Tell me she's just a disgruntled employee looking for a payout!
Julian: She's... she's not an employee, Victoria.
Victoria: What do you mean she's not an employee?! She’s wearing a maid uniform!
Elena: I wore this uniform tonight because it was the only way past your heavy security team. I needed to get close enough to look the man who ruined my life in the eyes.
Julian: Elena, listen to me. The estate was failing! The trust fund was tied up in court! I did what I had to do to survive!
Elena: You forged my signature on the trust documents! You used my grandfather's dying breath to transfer the Miller Global Holdings stock into your personal shell account!
Julian: I was going to pay it back! Every single cent! Once the merger with the Vance family went through, I was going to wire the funds back to your account!
Elena: You didn't plan on paying back a single dime. You planned on marrying into another rich family to cover up the massive debt you created in Chicago.
Elena reached inside her apron pocket and pulled out a thick envelope tied with a black ribbon, stepping closer to Julian until they were standing face-to-face.
Elena: My grandfather wore this crest ring for fifty years. He built the company you bled dry. Did you really think I wouldn't track you down?
Julian: What is in that envelope, Elena?
Elena: Everything your bride's mother needs to see before she hands over her family trust fund to a total fraud.
