A New Beginning

The Maid Held Up Her Ring, and the Groom Turned Pale

As the federal agents marched Julian out in cuffs, the crowd parted like the Red Sea, staring in complete awe at the young woman in the simple black-and-white maid uniform.

Elena slowly unbuttoned the white apron around her waist and let it drop to the polished marble floor. Underneath, she wore a tailored designer suit, stepping out of the role she had assumed just to deliver justice.

Elena: Keep the apron, Mrs. Vance. Consider it my resignation letter.

Victoria: Miss Miller... please. We had no idea who you really were. If there is any way we can make this right—

Elena: My attorneys will be contacting your family bank in the morning to handle the recovery of the stolen funds. I suggest you get a good lawyer, because the civil lawsuits start tomorrow.

Elena turned her back on the Vance family and walked toward the exit with her head held high, her gold signet ring catching the light of the grand chandeliers one last time.

A senior waiter who had been watching the entire scene stepped forward and held the heavy glass door open for her, bowing his head respectfully.

Waiter: Good evening, Miss Miller. Safe travels back to Chicago.

Elena: Thank you, Thomas. Take care of yourself.

Outside, a black luxury sedan was waiting at the curb with an elderly chauffeur standing beside the open back door.

Chauffeur: Was justice served, ma'am?

Elena: My grandfather’s legacy is safe now, Arthur. Let's go home.

Elena stepped into the vehicle, watching through the tinted window as the Dallas police cars pulled away with Julian in the back seat. For the first time in a year, she took a deep, clear breath, knowing that her family's honor had finally been restored.
