The heavy front doors swung open, and three uniformed Dallas police officers stepped into the mansion, their hands resting cautiously near their holsters. The lead officer, a stern man with graying hair, looked at the chaotic scene.
Officer Miller: We received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance and child endangerment. Who made the call?
David: I did, Officer. I’m David Vance. This is my house, and that woman right there just attempted to murder my daughter.
Veronica: That is an absolute lie, Officer! I am the victim here! My husband just assaulted me and threw me down the stairs!
Veronica threw herself toward the officers, tears streaming down her face in a sudden, dramatic display of innocence. She held up her red, bruised cheek for Officer Miller to see.
Veronica: Look at my face! He shoved me onto the marble floor! He and the maid are conspiring together to steal my assets and throw me out!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, please step back and calm down. We need to figure out what happened here.
Elena: Officer, the child was pushed from the second-floor balcony. I caught her at the bottom. The entire event was captured on our home surveillance system.
Veronica: The footage is fake! They edited it! They’ve been planning to set me up for months!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, camera footage doesn't edit itself in five minutes. Sir, where is the recording?
David pulled out his smartphone, tapped the screen a few times, and handed it directly to Officer Miller. The officer and his partner leaned in closer, watching the clear video file playing on the screen.
Officer Miller: My God...
On the screen, the video clearly showed Veronica standing behind the four-year-old child, checking her surroundings, and using both hands to forcefully push the small girl over the polished brass railing. It showed Elena sprinting from the side hallway with incredible speed and catching the child just inches before impact.
Officer Miller: Officer Davis, place her under arrest immediately.
Veronica: Get your hands off me! Do you know who my family is?! You can't touch me!
Officer Davis: You have the right to remain silent, ma'am. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
The female officer pulled Veronica’s hands behind her back, snapping a pair of cold steel handcuffs tightly around her wrists. Veronica began to thrash around, her expensive designer dress tearing slightly at the shoulder.
Veronica: David! Tell them to stop! You can't let them do this to me! I'm your wife!
David: You are nothing to me anymore. My divorce lawyer will be delivering the papers to your jail cell by tomorrow morning. And you won't touch a single penny of my family's estate or Maya’s trust fund.
Veronica: You ruined my life, Elena! You worthless piece of trash, you ruined everything!
Elena: I saved a child’s life today, Mrs. Vance. That’s something you’ll have plenty of time to think about in a state prison cell.
The officers dragged the screaming, hysterical woman out through the double front doors, her sharp heels scraping uselessly against the entryway floor as she was forced into the back of the police cruiser.
