The Reckoning on the Stairs

The Maid Who Saved the Heir

Victoria: Arthur, wait! Let me explain! You don't understand what happened!

Arthur: SHUT UP!

Arthur reached the top of the stairs, his chest heaving, eyes burning with a fury Victoria had never seen before in their three years of marriage. Victoria backed away slowly until her spine hit the hallway wall, raising her hands defensively.

Victoria: Arthur, please, I was overwhelmed! The baby wouldn't stop crying, and I... I slipped!

Arthur: You slipped?! You threw my daughter over a ten-story drop!

Victoria: It was an accident! I swear it was an accident!

Arthur closed the distance between them in a split second. A sharp crack echoed through the wide corridor as his palm struck her face. Victoria gasped, stumbling sideways, holding her bright red cheek as tears sprung to her eyes.

Victoria: AHH! You hit me?! You laid a hand on me?!

Arthur: YOU TRIED TO MURDER MY DAUGHTER!

Victoria: I made this family! I built this life with you!

Arthur: You didn't build anything! You tried to kill an infant for a trust fund and a piece of real estate!

Victoria: She's not even mine! She reminds me of your ex-wife every single day!

Arthur: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE RIGHT NOW! CALL 911!

Down in the foyer, Elena pulled her phone from her apron pocket with shaking fingers, dialing the three numbers immediately while holding the baby close.

Elena: Emergency services? Please, I need police at the Ashford estate right now! My boss's wife just tried to drop a child from the balcony!

Victoria: Hang up that phone, you miserable little insect!

Arthur: Don't you touch her! If you take one step toward her or my daughter, I will tear you apart!

Victoria: You can't throw me out! My name is on the prenup! I get half of this estate!

Arthur: You'll get a prison cell! That's what you'll get!
