Arthur: Elena, bring Lily into the study. Lock the door behind you.
Elena: Yes, Mr. Ashford. Right away.
Elena hurried into the grand study, clutching the baby who was finally beginning to quiet down. Arthur stood in the doorway, blocking Victoria from coming anywhere near them. Victoria glared at him, her eyes wild with panic as distant police sirens began to wail down the long driveway.
Victoria: Arthur, think about your reputation! The press will ruin the company! The board will kick you out if this gets into the news!
Arthur: I don't care about the board! I don't care about the company! I care about my child!
Victoria: You're making a mistake! I can fix this! We can tell them it was an attic accident!
Arthur: Do you think I'm blind, Victoria? I know why you did this. My lawyer called me two hours ago.
Victoria's face drained of what little color it had left.
Victoria: What... what are you talking about?
Arthur: The modification to my life insurance policy. The one you tried to submit yesterday behind my back.
Victoria: I don't know anything about a policy change!
Arthur: You tried to make yourself the sole beneficiary of Lily's trust in the event of her death! You signed my name on the legal paperwork!
Victoria: That's a lie! Someone forged my handwriting!
Arthur: The notary confirmed it was you! You signed it in front of them at the bank downtown!
The heavy front doors chimed as three uniformed police officers rushed into the mansion, their boots thudding against the polished floor.
Officer Miller: Police! Nobody move! Where is the child?!
Arthur: She's safe in the room behind me, officer. This woman just tried to throw my daughter off the top floor balcony!
Victoria: Don't listen to him! He attacked me! Look at my face! He slapped me!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, step away from the stairs and put your hands behind your back.
