The scorching sun beat down on the golden dust of the ancient Roman arena. Thousands of roaring spectators packed the stone grandstands, their cheers echoing like thunder off the massive marble columns. Imperial guards stood at attention along the perimeter, their iron spears glinting in the blinding heat. In the very center of the dusty floor stood Leo, a twelve-year-old American boy trapped in a world he did not understand. He clutched the collar of his simple tunic, his heart hammering against his ribs as he stared across the open ground.
Imperial Guard: Stand firm, boy! The Emperor demands a show, and you will give him one!
Leo: Please, you don't understand! I don't belong here! I just want to go home!
Imperial Guard: Silence! The gates are opening!
A massive iron portcullis creaked open at the far end of the stadium. A low, terrifying rumble shook the dirt beneath Leo's worn sandals. Out from the darkness stepped a creature straight out of myth—a massive albino lion with fur as white as freshly fallen snow and glowing orange eyes. Its muscles rippled under its pale skin as it flexed its powerful claws, sending dust swirling into the air.
Emperor: Let us see if the boy's blood is as soft as his foreign clothes! Release the beast!
Empress: Look at his chest, my Lord. What is that strange trinket hanging around his neck?
Emperor: A useless trinket from a distant land! It will not save him from the teeth of the white king!
Leo reached down with trembling fingers and touched the heavy gold medallion hanging from his neck. It was an intricate heirloom passed down through generations of his family, featuring a lion seal carved into solid gold. As the albino lion broke into a terrifying sprint, charging across the sand with open jaws, Leo held his breath and squeezed the medallion tight.
Leo: If you really belong to my family... please help me now!
