The Stepmother Pushed the Stroller Down the Stairs

Arthur turned away from Victoria, pulling his phone back out and hitting the three-digit emergency speed dial. Victoria’s eyes widened with sheer panic as she realized he was calling the police.

Victoria: Arthur, please don't do this! Think of our reputation! Think of what the press will say if the CEO of Vance Enterprises has his wife arrested for attempted murder!

Arthur: Hello, 911? I need emergency police units at 4402 Highland Park Drive immediately. I have video evidence of a child attempted murder in my home.

Victoria: Cancel that call! Arthur, I’m your wife!

Arthur: You were my wife. As of this exact second, you are nothing to me. The police are on their way, and my divorce lawyers will have the paperwork ready before you even reach the precinct lockup.

Victoria turned and tried to sprint toward the front door, but Arthur caught up to her in three long strides, grabbing her by the wrist and locking her in the study until the sirens blared down the driveway. Within ten minutes, two police officers marched Victoria out of the mansion in handcuffs, her red dress rumpled as local news cameras gathered at the gate.

Elena: Is she really gone, Mr. Vance?

Arthur: She’s going to prison for a very long time, Elena. I’ll make sure my legal team presses every single charge possible.

Arthur walked back into the living room, his posture slumping as the weight of the nightmare finally hit him. He looked at Elena, who was holding baby Lily close, feeding her a small bottle of warm milk to settle her nerves.

Arthur: Elena... I don't even know how to apologize to you. I yelled at you. I blamed you for something horrific when you were the only reason my daughter is alive right now.

Elena: You were scared for your baby, Mr. Vance. Any good father would have reacted with emotion in that moment.

Arthur: That’s no excuse. You risked your own safety to catch that stroller at the bottom of the steps. You saved my daughter’s life today.

Elena: I just did what anyone with a heart would do.

Arthur: Effective immediately, I’m doubling your salary. And I want you to stay on not just as our housekeeper, but as Lily’s head full-time nanny. I need someone I can actually trust in this house.

Elena: Mr. Vance, I... I don't know what to say. Thank you. I love this little girl like my own.

Arthur knelt down beside Elena’s chair, taking Lily’s tiny hand in his own. The baby smiled softly, her traumatic ordeal finally behind her as she felt the love and protection surrounding her in her home.

Arthur: You're safe now, baby girl. Nobody will ever hurt you again.
