The Stepmother's Cruel Push from the Penthouse Edge

The chill of the autumn morning cut sharply across the Manhattan skyline, but on the top floor of the Fifth Avenue high-rise, the air felt suffocating. Marcus stood near the glass railing, his phone pressed against his ear, his voice tight as he argued over the final terms of a multimillion-dollar corporate settlement. His daughter, barely a year old, crawled across the polished stone of the penthouse rooftop terrace, reaching toward a colorful toy.

Marcus: Look, just finalize the papers by noon. I don't care about the extra clause, just make sure the estate terms are completely sealed!

Behind him, the heavy glass door slid open with a soft hiss. Evelyn walked out onto the terrace. Her designer coat was draped immaculate over her shoulders, her eyes cold as they locked onto the baby crawling near the ledge.

Evelyn: Why is she out here again, Marcus? I told you, I cannot stand her constant crying throughout this apartment.

Marcus: She is playing, Evelyn. Leave her alone. I am trying to finish this call before the board meeting.

Evelyn: You spend more time obsessing over your late wife's child than paying attention to our marriage! Look at her, ruining my entire morning!

Elena: Sir! Let me grab her shoes, the wind is picking up!

Elena, the young live-in nanny, stepped onto the terrace with a warm fleece blanket. She smiled down at little Lily, who giggled and tried to pull herself up against a heavy marble planter. But as Marcus turned his back to pacing near the far side of the roof to focus on his phone call, Evelyn moved fast. She cornered the child near the decorative gap in the terrace railing.

Evelyn: GET OUT OF MY LIFE!

With a ruthless, deliberate shove, Evelyn pushed the terrified child straight toward the edge. The baby screamed as her little body lost balance, plunging downward past the glass barrier into open air. Elena let out a bloodcurdling scream, diving over the lower ledge with her arms outstretched, catching the child's jacket by absolute miracle on the lower maintenance catwalk just two feet below. The sound of high heels clinking backward echoed across the tile as Marcus spun around in utter horror.
