Groom Calls Off Wedding After Bride Shaves Daughter's Hair

Mark: Arthur, here is what is going to happen right now. You are going to sign over the full release of Sarah’s trust fund to an independent bank trustee chosen by my lawyers.

Arthur: Done. I will sign the transfer papers within the hour.

Clara: Dad, no! That money was supposed to expand our firm into Austin!

Arthur: Be quiet, Clara! You almost landed us in prison for fraud and child endangerment!

Mark: Second, Clara, you will step out into that courtyard right now and tell every guest, every reporter, and every family member that the wedding is canceled because of your own personal actions.

Clara: I will never do that! I’d rather die than humiliate myself in front of Dallas high society!

Mark: Then Brenda sends that video directly to the Dallas Police Department and the local news stations. Assault on a minor carries real jail time, Clara.

Clara’s face lost all its color. She looked at her father, pleading with her eyes, but Arthur simply turned his back on her, handing Mark his business card with a personal emergency number written on it.

Arthur: Do what he says, Clara. It's the only way you stay out of handcuffs today.

Clara: You’re... you’re all turning against me! Over a stupid haircut!

Mark: It was never about the haircut, Clara. It was about who you truly are when you think nobody can stop you.

Clara lifted her heavy lace gown, her heels clicking loudly on the marble floor as she walked slowly toward the courtyard doors. Two hundred guests were seated under the white floral gazebo, waiting for the music to start.

Mark walked out onto the balcony overlooking the courtyard, holding Lily tightly in his arms. Brenda stood beside him, holding his coat.

Clara: Attention, everyone... Please, listen to me...

The crowd went quiet. Whispers broke out as people noticed Clara was holding her microphone with shaking hands, her veil crooked, and no groom in sight.

Clara: The... the wedding is officially canceled. I have made a terrible error in judgment, and... and Mark has rightfully decided to end our engagement. Please leave the premises immediately.

Gasping echoed through the crowd. Gasps turned into angry murmurs as people saw the video already beginning to circulate among the bridesmaids’ phones in the front row.

Guest 1: Look at this video! Did she really do that to his little girl?!

Guest 2: That's sick! She shaved a child’s head for wedding photos?!

Clara dropped the microphone onto the stone tiles, the loud feedback screeching through the speakers. She ran back inside, sobbing hysterically as her former friends turned away in disgust.
