The Lost Crown of Saint Jude

The organ music echoed off the high stone arches of Saint Jude’s Cathedral as Bishop Miller raised the ancient golden crown above the kneeling young man. Marcus Vance, heir to a massive real estate fortune and the grand nephew of the late Cardinal, lowered his head in humble submission.

Bishop Miller: Before this congregation, and under the eyes of God, I crown you the rightful guardian of the Vance Estate!

Marcus: I accept this sacred duty with all my heart.

Bishop Miller: May your leadership bring honor to your family line and peace to this city.

A soft beam of light streamed through the stained-glass windows, illuminating the intricate jewels encrusted along the crown's golden rim. Marcus took a deep breath, his hands trembling slightly against his velvet trousers.

Marcus: Thank you, Your Grace. I won't fail my family.

Bishop Miller: Remember, Marcus, this crown carries the weight of a solemn promise made sixty years ago.

Marcus: I am ready to carry it.

The Bishop lowered the crown toward Marcus's dark wavy hair. The crowd gasped in awe as the relic glowed brightly under the cathedral chandelier.

Bishop Miller: BEFORE THIS KINGDOM, I CROWN YOU KING!

Marcus: Amen.

Suddenly, an icy wind swept through the locked wooden doors of the sanctuary. The candles flickered violently, casting long shadows across the red carpet.

Bishop Miller: What is happening?

Marcus: My Lord, look!

The crown lifted from the Bishop's hands, levitating several inches above Marcus’s head. A deep hum filled the cathedral, rattling the wooden pews.

Marcus: Why isn't it settling on my head?

Bishop Miller: The sacred relic... it refuses to rest!

The golden crown drifted upward toward the ceiling before gliding down the long central aisle toward the back of the church.

Marcus: Stop it! Catch it!

Bishop Miller: No one touch it! It seeks its true owner!

At the back of the cathedral stood a twelve-year-old boy wearing a tattered coat and worn-out shoes. His eyes widened in absolute terror as the glowing crown hovered directly over his messy hair.

Leo: Papa?

Bishop Miller: Heaven help us...

Marcus: That's impossible! He's just a street urchin!

Bishop Miller: The crown has spoken, Marcus. The bloodline was lied about.
