FABLE

The Tamed Beast

The Tattered Pendant and the Roman Arena

King Aurelius: Why are you standing there like statues?! Fire upon the arena!

Guard Captain: The men are terrified, my King! The animal is bowing to him!

King Aurelius: That is impossible! That beast has starved in darkness for three weeks!

Caleb: It knows its rightful master, Aurelius! Just like the people of this city used to!

The white lion lowered its massive head, resting its broad snout gently against Caleb's outstretched palm. The golden light from the pendant wrapped around the lion's mane, pulsing in steady, peaceful rhythms. The entire stadium fell into a stunned, dead silence, with thousands of spectators staring in absolute disbelief.

Spectator Woman: Is that... is that the royal crest of the lost house?

Spectator Man: Look at the medallion! That's the ancient seal of the true lineage!

King Aurelius: Silence! Anyone who speaks that treason will be thrown to the dungeons!

Caleb: You can't execute the truth, Aurelius! You stole the throne, you forged the inheritance documents, and you murdered my father!

King Aurelius: LIES! You are a condemned thief caught stealing from the royal vault!

Caleb: I was taking back what was rightfully mine! This pendant was stolen from my mother's corpse!

Caleb stepped forward, and the giant lion walked right beside him, its shoulder pressing against his side like a loyal hound. The guards on the perimeter lowered their spears, trembling as the beast let out a deep, protective growl aimed straight at the balcony.

Guard Captain: My King... the legend said the royal beast would only submit to the true heir.

King Aurelius: Do not spout fairy tales to me, Captain! Draw your sword and execute him yourself!

Guard Captain: I... I cannot raise my blade against the seal, Sire.

King Aurelius: Traitor! I will execute you both with my own hands!

Caleb: Come down here then, Aurelius! Face me in the dirt without your royal guards!
