FABLE

The Court's Verdict

The Tattered Pendant and the Roman Arena

King Aurelius: Guards! Seize the Captain! Seize anyone who hesitates!

Guard 1: We aren't fighting that lion, Sire... and we aren't fighting the true heir.

King Aurelius: Mutiny! This is outright treason!

Caleb: It isn't treason to restore the law! Look around you, Aurelius. You stand completely alone.

Heavy iron doors at the rear of the arena grandstands burst open. A squad of federal marshals and civil judges marched onto the upper tiers, holding certified legal warrants stamped with the golden seal of the supreme court.

Chief Judge: Aurelius Vance! Step away from the ledge and place your hands behind your head!

King Aurelius: What is the meaning of this court intrusion?!

Chief Judge: By order of the High Court, your assets, titles, and property foreclosures are hereby frozen pending grand jury indictment for murder, tax fraud, and unlawful usurpation of the royal estate!

King Aurelius: You have no jurisdiction in my arena!

Chief Judge: The DNA evidence provided by Caleb Vance is 100% conclusive. The estate, the inheritance, and the sovereign title belong to him!

Crowd Spectator: Long live the true heir! Justice for the Vance family!

The arena erupted into overwhelming cheers, the sound echoing across the stone pillars and reaching high into the sky. Aurelius stumbled backward, his golden crown slipping from his head and clattering uselessly against the stone steps.

King Aurelius: This is a nightmare... a complete setup!

Caleb: It's not a setup, Aurelius. It's justice catching up to you after twenty long years.

Guard Captain: Take him into custody! Secure the former ruler!

Two soldiers stepped forward, roughly pinning Aurelius's arms behind his back and placing heavy steel cuffs around his wrists. The fallen tyrant glared down at Caleb with pure venom, but Caleb simply turned his back on the balcony.
