The horrifying sound of a falling body echoed through the marble foyer of the Connecticut estate like thunder.
Elena hit the hard floor violently on both knees, her elbows scraping raw against the stones as she locked her arms around a bundle of soft cashmere.
Elena: I’ve got you! Oh merciful God, I’ve got you! Don't stop breathing, please don't stop breathing!
Her voice shattered into a sob as she curled her body into a trembling shield over the crying infant.
High above on the sweeping second-floor balcony, twenty feet in the air, Victoria stood clutching the mahogany railing with pristine white knuckles.
Victoria: David! Come out here right now! She dropped him! That filthy maid just dropped our baby over the ledge!
The shriek tore through the silence of the estate, and within seconds, heavy hurried footsteps bolted out from the private study.
David rushed into the foyer, his tailored jacket flapping open, his face turning sheet-white as his eyes landed on the scene.
David: What did you just say?! What happened to Liam?!
Victoria: She was holding him by the balcony stairs, David! I begged her to step back, and she just opened her arms and let him fall!
Elena: No! Mr. Vance, please listen to me! I swear on my life that is not what happened!
Elena raised her tear-stained face from the floor, shaking uncontrollably as pain radiated through her fractured knees.
David: Step away from my son, Elena! Get your hands off him right now!
David dropped down, aggressively tearing the three-month-old infant away from her trembling chest.
Elena: He isn't hurt, sir! I caught him before he hit the stone! I was polishing the baseboards downstairs when I saw him falling!
Victoria: Look at her lying through her teeth, David! She’s an absolute monster!
Victoria glided down the curved marble staircase, dabbing her dry cheeks with a silk handkerchief.
Victoria: She was jealous because you finalized our marriage settlement last week! She wanted to destroy our lives!
David: You tried to kill my newborn heir, Elena? After everything this family gave you?
Elena: Never! I loved your late wife Sarah, and I love your children! I would never hurt this baby!
Victoria: Don't let her speak Sarah's name! Call Chief Miller right now and have her locked up for attempted murder!
David’s hand shook with blinding fury as he pulled his phone out and tapped the emergency line.
David: Chief Miller? Bring three patrol cars to my residence immediately. My housekeeper just tried to murder my son.
Just as he hung up, frantic, bare footsteps raced along the upper corridor.
Chloe: Dad! Daddy, stop! Put the phone down right now and look at the screen!
David looked up to see his eight-year-old daughter leaning over the upper banister, clutching an illuminated digital tablet to her chest while screaming at the top of her lungs.
